Content creators will be given access to Disney’s extensive library of resources for use in their videos.
Disney and TikTok have reached an agreement that will allow TikTok content creators to post Disney-themed vertical videos on Disney+. Disney launched its TikTok counterpart in the Verts section of the Disney+ app back in March, hinting that it planned to expand it in the future to include fan-generated content.
Content creators who participate in the pilot program, initially available only in the U.S., will gain access to Disney’s resources for hundreds of films and series, including confirmed projects from Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. Videos from approved creators will be featured on both TikTok and Verts on Disney+. These platforms will be regularly updated to help expand audiences and “more deeply engage subscribers in relevant conversations with fans,” according to a Disney press release.
Disney and TikTok are also launching an initiative called the Disney Creator Ambassador Program, through which they will support “best-in-class content creators” by boosting their visibility, providing them with opportunities to attend exclusive events, and rewarding them with incentives. It is easy to see why Disney wants to invest in TikTok talent. The company’s internal data showed that last year, an average of 6.5 million film and series-related posts were published daily on TikTok, and half of survey respondents said they were inspired to watch a movie or series by videos they saw on TikTok.
The new partnership comes following recent reports that Disney may be planning to launch a free tier of Disney+, although it is unclear whether it would include vertical video content if that happens. Disney declined to comment at the time. The TikTok and Disney+ collaboration will launch in pilot mode in the coming months, with no exact date announced today.
