This article explains in a short and human way where your history is on YouTube – what you searched for and what you watched. I’ll share simple steps for phone and computer, the nuances of why history might disappear, and how to quickly tidy things up.

No pompous or complicated words – just so you can figure it out in 5 minutes and peacefully get on with your life.

Short answer

Open the YouTube app – Library tab – History. There you can see what you’ve watched. To see what you searched for, go to Search and tap the bar – a list of queries will appear. If you need the full list or you’re asking yourself “How to view all search history?” or “How to know what I watched on YouTube?”, go to your Google account on the My Activity page – YouTube section.

On a computer, watch history is here: youtube.com/feed/history, and all queries are in YouTube search history or Google My Activity.

Where to view history and queries on your phone

On the phone, many ask: “How to know what I watched on YouTube?” and “How to view all my queries?”. In the app, this takes just a couple of taps. The main thing is to be signed into the right account, otherwise you’ll see the wrong thing or nothing at all.

On Android

  • Open YouTube – Library tab – History. Here are all your recent watches.
  • To see search queries, tap the Search icon and then the search bar – a list of recent queries drops down.
  • For the full list, open profile – Manage your Google Account – Data & privacy – My Activity – YouTube. There you can view and filter both watches and queries.

On iPhone

  • Open YouTube – Library – History. These are your recent watches.
  • For search queries, go to Search and tap the bar – you’ll see recent queries.
  • The full list is in Google My Activity – YouTube section. It’s convenient to open it in a browser and sign in with the same account.

If history is empty – mini-story

A friend had this happen: everything disappeared. It turned out he was watching at a friend’s place with a different account and some videos in incognito mode. He switched back to his account and turned off incognito – history reappeared. Usually, just checking which profile you’re using on YouTube helps.

How to view history on a computer

On a computer, it’s convenient to see the entire activity feed and easily search by words. If the thought “How to view all queries on YouTube?” won’t let go or you want “How to view all search history?” – here are two options.

Via the YouTube website

  • Go to youtube.com and sign in to your account.
  • On the left, select History or directly open youtube.com/feed/history.
  • On the right, there’s a Search history filter – there you can see exactly what you entered.

Sometimes people go further and wonder, how to see the most popular queries on YouTube? In your account history, you only see your personal searches, but to understand general trends, you can open the “Trending” section on YouTube or look at data in Google Trends. There you can see which topics and queries users are searching for most often right now.

Via Google My Activity

This is the general activity log for YouTube in your Google account. It’s useful when you need to filter by date or word. Link: My Activity – YouTube. Official tips are in YouTube’s help on watch history and search history.

  • Open https://myactivity.google.com/product/youtube?hl=en and sign in to your account.
  • Use Search by activity or filters by date and event type.
  • From here you can delete individual items and manage history settings.

Why history doesn’t show up or gets mixed

If you’re looking for “How to view all my queries?” but see emptiness or strange entries, the reason is almost always in settings or the account. I’ve noticed that checking login, history pause, and incognito mode usually helps the most.

You’re not signed into the right account

Your phone may have multiple Google accounts. Check the avatar in YouTube and switch profiles. On your computer, see if the YouTube tab isn’t open under a different login.

History pause is on

If history is paused, new videos and queries won’t be saved. Go to My Activity – YouTube and make sure history is on. This is officially described in the help: how to manage watch and search history on YouTube.

Incognito and multiple devices

In incognito mode, YouTube doesn’t record anything. Another thing – if someone at home watches on the TV under your account, those watches will end up in your history. One reader wrote that he found cartoons in his history even though he didn’t watch them – it was just the TV logged into his account.

How to clear, download, or pause history

A common scenario: “How to view all search history?” and then decide what to keep. In my opinion, it’s better to tidy things up every couple of months. Here are the quick routes.

Delete individual entries

  • In YouTube History, hover over an entry and click delete.
  • In My Activity, open the desired item and choose delete.

Clear all search history

  • On YouTube: Settings – History & privacy – Clear search history.
  • On computer: youtube.com/feed/history – Search history tab – Clear search history.

Pause history collection

  • On YouTube: Settings – History & privacy – Pause watch history and Pause search history.
  • In My Activity: History controls – turn off YouTube activity recording.

Download a copy of history

If you want an archive, you can export data via Google Takeout. Once, a playlist of mine was saved this way: I found old videos in the export and restored them.

  • Open https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout?hl=en.
  • Select YouTube and YouTube Music, deselect what you don’t need.
  • Create an export and wait for the archive link.

Checklist: check history in 2 minutes

  • [ ] I’m signed into the correct Google account on all devices.
  • [ ] Watch and search history are on, pause is off.
  • [ ] Incognito is off, shared devices aren’t logged into my account.
  • [ ] In History I see my recent videos, in Search I see my queries.
  • [ ] I know how to quickly delete what’s unnecessary and where to download an archive.

How to view search and watch history on YouTube for a child

In family settings and child accounts, history may work differently. If you have a supervised account, some features are limited for safety. In YouTube Kids, history is trimmed and managed within the app. It’s useful to check the help on supervised accounts and review family settings in Google.

If a family is linked

History is personal data. Ethically, it’s not right to look without consent. Technically, you’ll only see what happens under your account. If a child watches using your profile on the TV – those views will end up in your history.

Small life stories

What happened to a friend

He accidentally cleared his history and got upset because he lost track of a favorite channel. We went into Google My Activity and found the videos by a word from the title. Since then, he exports via Takeout once a month – sleeps more peacefully.

What happened to me once

I was looking for a song using two words from the chorus. I went into YouTube Search history and just scrolled through evening queries – and there it was. Funny, but sometimes your own trail is the best search engine.

Micro-FAQ

History disappeared. Can it be restored?

If you deleted it manually – unfortunately, no. Sometimes an export from Takeout helps if you did it before. Check if a different account is open.

How to view all YouTube queries for a year?

Through Google My Activity – YouTube. Set a date filter for the desired period and filter by Action type – Search.

Can I hide specific videos from history without turning it off?

Yes, delete specific videos individually. Or watch that video in incognito mode – then it won’t appear in history at all.

History doesn’t sync between phone and PC. What to do?

Check that it’s the same account, that history is on, and your internet connection. Sometimes logging out and back in and restarting the app helps.

Does history affect recommendations?

Yes. YouTube adapts to your watches and searches. If you’re interested in understanding more broadly, how to know which videos are popular on YouTube, it’s worth looking not only at your history but also at the “Trending” tab, recommendations on the homepage, and statistics of popular videos on a topic. The algorithm often shows such videos precisely because they’re actively getting views and reactions from other viewers. If recommendations go off track, clear your history or pause it for a while.

Key takeaways

  • YouTube history is divided into watches and searches, and they can be viewed separately.
  • On phone it’s Library – History and the Search bar, on PC – youtube.com/feed/history.
  • Full control and filters are in Google My Activity – YouTube.
  • If history is empty, check account, history pause, and incognito.
  • Unneeded items are easy to delete, and what’s needed can be saved via Takeout.

If you want – share how it worked out for you

I’m curious whether you found a long-forgotten video or tidied up recommendations – drop a couple of lines about what worked for you.
